Manhart is back into the spotlight with another magnificent tuning project carried out on the M5 Touring from BMW. It involves the fitting of the tuner`s MH5 900E package, which means monstrous power and torque under the hood. To be exact, we are talking here about big numbers: 910 horsepower and whopping 1,200 Nm of torque.
That is a serious step up from the stock numbers.

To get there, Manhart started where many people would expect it to start, though not finish: with the S68 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and its hot-vee turbochargers. From there came a reworked exhaust system with active flaps, less restrictive downpipes, and matte-black finishers. The setup also relies on the company’s MHtronic auxiliary control unit, which works with the engine management system and changes how the engine, fuel system, and exhaust behave. It does that by intercepting and modifying electrical signals passing between the factory control unit and the sensor network.
Visually, the car stays close to the familiar Manhart formula. Black body, gold accents, no effort at understatement. Still, there is more going on than just the power bump and the color combo. H&R lowering springs are part of the conversion, while KW coilovers are available for those who want to take a different route with the suspension.

The wheel menu is not especially broad, but it is specific. We are dealing here with Concave One alloys with a six-double-spoke layout and measuring 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear.
Tire sizing follows that layout. Front options span from 285/35 by 21 inches to 295/30 by 22 inches. Rear rubber is either 305/30 or 315/30 by 22 inches. The brakes, meanwhile, stay mechanically untouched. Manhart will, however, paint the calipers in pretty much any color a customer wants.
Inside, the tuner does not go overboard. Branded floor mats are mentioned. So is an Alcantara headliner. That is about it.

One thing Manhart does not spell out is whether the package improves acceleration or top speed. The company leaves that open, and maybe that is because the tires, the transmission, and the electric half of the plug-in hybrid drivetrain still set the limits here.
That part matters, especially in Europe. The Euro-spec BMW M5 Touring was recently adjusted for Euro 7 through the Miller combustion cycle and dedicated after-treatment changes. In that form, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 lost 40 horsepower, but software calibration from the hybrid side keeps total output unchanged at 727 ps (717 hp) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft).
