NOVITEC Makes the Lamborghini Urus SE Wider – but Leaves Its 800-HP Hybrid System Alone

The Lamborghini Urus SE already has a fairly difficult job. It needs to behave like a luxury SUV, carry a family without complaint and somehow convince its owner that 800 horsepower in something this large is perfectly reasonable.

NOVITEC looked at that combination and apparently decided the part that needed attention wasn’t the horsepower.

Its latest program for the plug-in hybrid Urus SE concentrates primarily on bodywork, wheels, suspension and sound, while leaving Lamborghini’s already formidable hybrid powertrain essentially alone. Considering the standard SUV produces 800 hp and 950 Nm, that’s probably not a terrible decision.

The biggest visual change is the ESTESO widebody conversion.

NOVITEC adds new bodywork around the wheel arches and combines it with exposed-carbon components, including a redesigned hood. Customers can choose between a hood with a visible-carbon insert or a complete carbon version, while additional pieces around the front fascia sharpen the standard Urus design.

This isn’t a subtle transformation, but neither is the car underneath it.

The extra width creates room for enormous 23-inch wheels, developed specifically for the Urus SE. NOVITEC has been using staggered Vossen wheel packages on its Lamborghini projects for years, but on a vehicle as physically large as the Urus, 23 inches somehow manages to look almost normal.

Almost.

NOVITEC also offers suspension changes to reduce the ride height and remove some of the visual gap around those wheels. The result is an Urus that sits closer to the road and looks considerably less interested in pretending it might ever be used for serious off-roading.

Then we get to the exhaust.

The Urus SE combines a twin-turbocharged V8 with its electric hardware, and NOVITEC offers high-performance exhaust systems designed to reduce back pressure and give the combustion engine considerably more presence. At the expensive end of the catalogue, the exhaust can be made from Inconel and coated in 999 fine gold.

Is gold plating necessary underneath a Lamborghini SUV? Of course not.

But we’re already discussing an 800-hp Lamborghini wearing 23-inch wheels and a widebody kit. Practical necessity left the room several paragraphs ago.

What’s more interesting is what NOVITEC hasn’t done.

Modern tuning increasingly seems obsessed with four-digit horsepower figures. The Urus SE would make an obvious candidate for another headline announcing 900 or 1,000 hp, particularly because its electrified drivetrain already starts at 800.

Instead, NOVITEC has concentrated on changing how the car looks, sounds and sits on the road. There’s something refreshingly sensible about that, at least by tuning standards.

Eight hundred horsepower wasn’t the Urus SE’s problem. Apparently, it simply wasn’t wide enough.

What do you think?
