ABT Sportsline has returned with another heavily revised crossover, though this time the base vehicle sits far away from the exotic territory usually linked with huge power figures. The German tuner started with the Cupra Formentor VZ5 and transformed the compact performance model into something carrying supercar-level output.

The project uses Audi Sport’s turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. In factory specifications, the unit develops 385 hp, equal to 287 kW or 390 ps, together with 480 Nm of torque, which translates to 354 pound-feet. ABT left none of those numbers untouched.
A revised turbocharger joins a fresh intercooler and a water-ethanol injection setup. After the modifications, the tuned crossover reaches 626 hp, or 467 kW and 635 ps. Torque climbs to 700 Nm, equivalent to 516 pound-feet. The increase changes the character of the vehicle completely. Or maybe exaggerates the original one.

ABT also states a new maximum speed of 300 kph, which equals 186 mph. The regular Cupra Formentor VZ5 tops out at 250 kph, or 155 mph. Cupra quotes a 0-100 kph sprint in 4.2 seconds for the untouched model, matching the 0-62 mph figure. ABT has not published acceleration data for the modified version.
Visually, the tuning package avoids unnecessary drama. The company keeps the exterior restrained compared with many aftermarket projects currently flooding the segment. You need familiarity with the standard Cupra Formentor VZ5 before noticing the changes immediately. Frankly, that restraint helps the build.

The exterior modifications include air-intake trim pieces at the front, a rear apron extension, and a wing mounted at the back. ABT also added coilover suspension and anti-roll bars intended to sharpen the crossover’s handling response. The model rides on Cupra-branded wheels paired with performance-focused tires.
The cabin receives smaller revisions instead of a full redesign. ABT fitted a different cap for the start-stop switch, installed fresh floor mats, and added a unique finish around the air vent area. Those details separate the tuned crossover from the standard version without changing the overall layout too much.

Cupra plans to produce 4,000 examples of the Formentor VZ5 worldwide in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive form. ABT secured 30 units for conversion into the “635 specification.” Pricing details have not been announced yet, though the tuner stated further information about costs and related details will arrive later.
For a crossover starting life with under 400 horsepower, the final numbers land in unusual territory. Quiet styling. Loud output.
